A Word from our President
The legendary Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi began each football season by holding up a football and saying to his team, “Men, this is a football.” My goal as President is simply to return to the basics. Yes, every church’s foundation will determine its size and strength. You can never build larger than your foundation can handle. My heart is for us to simply return to the basics. I am very conscious that I cannot accomplish this task alone, because of my local church responsibilities, so I desperately need your involvement and participation.
Jesus prayed that His followers would be “as one” in John 17:21 and this is the hope of our church. My vision is five-fold:
1) That we love the Lord with all our hearts
2) That we love our neighbors as ourselves
3) That we go and make disciples
4) Baptizing them
5) Teaching them to obey
I truly believe our best days are not behind us but they are before us. The only church that I have ever been a part of is our beloved Congregational Methodist Church and I truly believe our nation desperately needs the message of holiness and heart purity and I compel you to join your hearts with mine in preserving this truth.
There is an old story about a sheepherder in Wyoming who would observe the behavior of wild animals during the winter. Packs of wolves, for example, would sweep into the valley and attack the bands of wild horses. The horses would form a circle with their heads at the center of the circle and kick out at the wolves, driving them away. Then the sheepherder saw the wolves attack a band of wild donkeys. The animals also formed a circle, but they formed it with their heads out toward the wolves. When they began to kick, they ended up kicking one another.
We have a choice; we can be as wise as a horse or as unwise as a donkey. I know we will respond as the horses. I challenge each of us to join our hearts and heads and truly the sky is the limit. Again, I am humbled and honored by this opportunity!
In His Service,
Dr. Benny Tate
